0: Year of Guided Paws

Moons 0-5

After receiving a supernatural message begging him for help, Stoatstripe gathered his two friends and a pawful of apprentices and kits and split away from SunClan. The Light, the benevolent entity that gifts StarClan its powers, sought protection and noble cats to loosen the grip the now-corrupt StarClan has on the Clans of the plains. The group dedicated themselves to the Light’s mission. And so became LightClan.

The brave cats of LightClan were: Stoatstripe (the leader), Dogstar (the deputy), Dustdawn (the medicine cat), Clovethorn (an apprentice), Daisy (an apprentice), Cedarspot (an apprentice), Hazeltrail (an apprentice), Skymallow (a kit), and Cloudyspark (a kit).

Skymallow and Cloudyspark were immediately at odds: Skykit adored Cloudykit, but Cloudykit couldn’t stand Skykit. Dogstar was strict with his apprentices, including Daisy, who grew to fear him. Cedarspot and Hazeltrail were fond of each other from the start. Stoatstripe was troubled with visions and omens.

The Light asked a favor of their Clan: when an apprentice is graduating to adulthood, they must demonstrate their worthiness and strength. The dusk of their graduation, the apprentice must venture out of camp and walk their entire territory. The Light will judge them, and if they are worthy, it will guide them safely back to home by dawn. If not… well, The Light needs strong, noble-hearted cats. Some may not make the cut.

Unfortunately, Daisy did not. He did not return from his apprenticeship trial. But the rest did, and all remaining youngsters successfully become Warriors. Hazeltrail and Cedarspot become mates, Skymallow and Cloudyspark reach — if not a truce, then at least a friendly rivalry, and Clovethorn tries not to yearn for her mated friends.

LightClan discovers a new feature of their territory however: an enormous, deafening Thundersnake tears above their camp every so often, shaking the ground and letting out its clatterous growls and shrieks. Sometimes it scares away prey. Sometimes it scares away cats.

As Greenleaf begins, the Light asks for its Clan to commune with it once a year. It’s a celebration, a ceremony, and a chance for the Light to spend time with its flock. If faithfully done, the Light will speak to a chosen cat and give them a message that will be important for the coming year.
