Introduction

What is this

This is a free template for ClanGen, a warrior cats fan game, made for players who want to keep track of their clan, cats, lore, events, and so on!

This particular template is especially useful for more writing-centric play, where you want to turn the game’s events into story entries, keep track of character arcs, and remember how cats are connected to each other over time.

It’s also built with clanshares in mind. If you post your clan for other people to follow, claim cats, make art, or react to events, this template includes optional tools for tracking players, claimed cats, documenting challenge rules, automated ping lists, implementing dice rolls, and tracking fanart submissions.

As for Notion: it’s a free-ish site builder that is an unholy mix of Google Sheets and Google Docs. The core of this template is that nearly everything is a database. Each database is like a spreadsheet, but every row also opens into its own page where you can write notes, add images, and organize related information.

Notion can do a lot, and this template uses some of its fancier features: linked databases, relations, rollups, formulas, filtered views, and database templates. You do not need to understand all of those immediately. You can start by just filling in cats and diary entries, and learn the rest as you go.

Useful Notion help pages:

How do I start

  1. Make a Notion account if you do not already have one.
  2. Duplicate this template into your own workspace.
  3. Rename the main clan page to your clan’s name.
  4. Move this TEMPLATE DOCUMENTATION page somewhere out of the main clan page in your sidebar, or keep it tucked away as a reference.
  5. Replace the dummy/example entries with your own clan’s information. (Unless you, too, hate StinkClan.)
  6. Start adding cats, diary entries, art, and lore as you play.

Before you delete anything, duplicate the whole template once and keep an untouched backup. Notion is usually forgiving, but it is much less stressful to experiment when you know you have a clean copy at hand. Alternatively, just keep the link to this template for future duplicating purposes.

Things to Customize First

At minimum, you probably want to update these:

Don’t worry about making everything perfect before you start. This is meant to be a fun, useful template! I find that making too much busywork is a death knell for clans. So just go easy, have fun, explore, and let your Notion evolve over time.

How this Notion Works

Most of the core functionality of this Notion comes from databases that are linked to each other.
